While the bar may seem appealing from the exterior , what I found behind its walls was shocking and unacceptable on multiple levels .

From the moment I stepped inside , it was clear that upkeep was not a priority at Masterson’s . The ground was covered in grime , and a foul smell of stale beer and uncleaned toilets permeated the entire bar . With a smell of a mixture of ammonia , a rotting odor and illness . The serving zone , which should be the centerpiece of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and litter that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks . The lavatory was in even a more revolting state — backed up, with a snapped lever and surfaces marked in what I can only assume was human waste .

His presence at the bar often seemed closer to that of a unsettling figure than a friendly owner .
